Natural Olive Oil Cosmetics

In this new post, we will discuss the benefits of natural cosmetics and highlight some aspects related to those made with olive oil.

Firstly, it is important to define what natural cosmetics are, and perhaps there is no more comprehensive definition than “life”—that is, products obtained directly from plants that retain all their active ingredients intact. In contrast to natural cosmetics, we find conventional cosmetics which, generally speaking, are made from synthetic, inert products.

Learning to Read Labels

Consumers often encounter significant difficulties interpreting the labels of these types of products, so we will provide some basic guidelines below to facilitate this process.
An organic product is one that contains more than 95% organic ingredients; a natural product with organic ingredients is one that is entirely natural but contains more than 70% and less than 95% organic ingredients; and finally, a natural cosmetic is one made with natural ingredients.
A Bio product, on the other hand, meets all these characteristics and also holds the certification granted by the control bodies of each Autonomous Community.

Organic cosmetics are produced in an environmentally friendly manner and do not contain irritating or toxic substances (pesticides, herbicides, etc.).
Unfortunately, there are still few producers of organic cosmetics in Spain, so they are often imported from other countries such as Germany.

Why are consumers turning to Bio products?

Typically, this type of consumer seeks a product of the highest quality, produced sustainably. Strictly speaking in the field of cosmetics, it is a consumer aware that exercising or taking care of oneself “internally” would be of little use if one then applies a cosmetic that prevents the skin from breathing, thus losing hydration. To illustrate this, consider the following example:

Throughout our lives, we can end up having “consumed” a kilogram of lipstick. Therefore, if it contains no toxins, there is no problem, but if it contains a petroleum derivative or a mineral oil, for example, this could harm our body.

Cosmetics Made with Organic Olive Oil: Some Useful Tips

1-Olive oil is a great ally against dehydration, making its use highly recommended for both hair and skin care. To restructure damaged hair, you can apply masks made with olive oil, to which you can add an egg yolk for extra hydration. This mixture, applied to dry hair and wrapped in a towel or thermal cap, will help prevent hair breakage and reduce frizz.
2-For a perfect complexion, we reveal the secret of our ancestors in the Old Continent. A single drop of organic olive oil spread over the face will deeply moisturize the skin. For best results, apply it at night, when the skin undergoes its greatest regeneration. However, it is not recommended for oily or acne-prone skin.
3-After exfoliation, olive oil is a great ally for hydrating not only facial skin but also elbows, knees, and generally those areas that tend to dry out more easily.
4-Olive oil is a powerful makeup remover. Just put a small drop on a cotton pad, and it will help remove makeup from eyes and face. By doing this, you will also help hydrate your eyelashes and the delicate eye contour.
5-If you mix olive oil with sugar, you will get an effective exfoliant for your lips. You can apply this mixture with an old toothbrush and rub gently. As a final step, moisturize your lips, which will be soft and free of small dry skin patches.

In conclusion, we can affirm that natural cosmetics are increasingly on the rise, and there is a growing offer of these types of products, formulated, for the most part, with plant-based components. This trend is driven by consumers who are increasingly concerned about their holistic health and the care of their surrounding environment.
